    The 351 cleavland was legendary here in Australia. In particular, the xy gtho falcon. Ford Australia also made a 302 cleavland. Ford Australia lied about the xy gtho power out put. The government was telling manufacturers if they didn't stop making fast cars they wouldn't buy from them. So Ford said it made 300 hp. But it was more like 350-380. Xy gtho falcon hit 160 mph at Bathurst. In production car racing. The cars were very close to stock, but rev limiter disconnected and balanced.

      @@UnityMotorSportsGarage oh I guess it is. Back in my younger years a buddy had a 66 f100 short box with what we thought was a 390 in it. Didn’t know the engine build but we know it had some compression and a BIG cam. Enough to use the big primary tube headers. (We swiped it out of his brothers galaxy) slapped in a b&m tranny with a pretty loose converter, some big old sportsmans, home brew ladder bars, and a set of gears and a spool. After trashing 2 of those trannys the third one held up, and we proceeded to. Whip the snot out of every hopped up fox body in several counties. Around ‘94 or 95’ the tire marks it left launching was actually wider than it was in length. Those were the days! :) Until a rod departed the block we never knew it was actually a 427. :/ Somehow fast trucks are more fun.

    You are wrong saying the 351w was lacking. GM and Dodge guys won't mention a 351w vs a 350 or 340. They bring up the 302. Which still beat up both. Ford to the front.

      @@UnityMotorSportsGarage Andy I’m kinda embarrassed that I don’t know but what was the largest displacement F-100 engine option in 1971 ? It was the last year for high compression Mustang engines with the Boss 351 and 429 SCJ solid lifter engines. I would imagine the F-100 also had a badass engine option as well. 🤔🏁

    The majority of engines will run near peak potential with one light and one medium spring on the advanvce and a total of 34 to 36 without vacuum advance connected. No need to try to over complicate things.

    TJ Strange is probably revving those 400 cubes over 10,000rpm. You either use high rpm or boost to take advantage of that much flow.

    The Hemi's biggest drawback was it's weight. A fully dressed 426 Hemi was north of 800Lbs, about 100Lbs more than a 460, or 454, or even the 440.

    Try slick 50 in rear end we used it on my 96 chevy truck 3/4 ton 60 thous got put all fluded new and flused block antfezz i keep oil changed and it got 260 + no it never had changed pumps its 6.5 d

    Don’t know if “flipping the lid” actually did much other then giving the carb more area to draw air from instead of making the air route through the small intake hole in the filter housing. Maybe an open air filter would do the same as flipping the lid. The drawback would be loosing the sleeper look though. Love the content of actually searching for the problems instead of pushing advertisers like most shows do.

    It is this simple , I worked for a speed shop when I was a teenager , my boss was a very knowledgeable guy. He always told me the vacuum advance always went to what he called progressive vacuum . So say your leaving a red light as you give your car gas it advances the timing. If you plug your vacuum line in and at idle and your timing advances its wrong.

    If you go back to 1970 and you're talking about the great engines you have to mention the Hemi you have to mention a 427 Ford and a 428 Ford and the 429 Chevrolet 454 LS6 those are your top picks there are many more but those are the best with the most horsepower most of them have between 450 and 500 horsepower Factory rated and you could get them up to 700 what you have now is completely different and they are completely unaffordable Back in 1970 anybody can buy one of these other hot cars they were less than $6,000 now they're over 100 grand

    has somebody who has built mini Clevelands there's nothing Cleveland about that motor the Cleveland intake Port design was a direct copy of the Mark II mystery motor without a raised angle that's why it flows better when you fill the bottom of the floorthen you have to cut half the exhaust Port often put a plate on there to change the direction then it'll flow decent before that it wasn't really that great of a design it was just big ports

    I have only owned one Hemi engine in my life. It was in a low budget blown alcohol funny car that I had back in the late 80's through early 90's. It was a 500 Cubic inch Keith Black bottom end with Bill Miller pistons 0-gap rings, Lunati cam, Brad Anderson first gen fat heads, and intake manifold. The blower was a Mert Littlefield high helix with an Enderle fuel injection, and a Crower glide clutch. It was tuned way down only running one mag, one set of plugs and only about 38-degrees all in timing at 3800 RPM. The blower was only running 15% overdrive. It could run in the 7's all day long at about 180 MPH at around 4800 RPM. All I would do is change the oil, and run the valves. I could get about 100 runs down the 1/4 mile before having to put a new set of piston rings and valve keepers on it.

    Yes Andy that is a great video and I know you are a Ford man so thank you for making it. And I know Ford made some very high performance engines also but their numbers were fairly small compared to the 426 Hemi. Chevrolet made a bunch of high performance engines also but same situation, very few sold.

    Nothing looks more bad ass than seeing a 426 sitting under the hood of what ever model and the spark plug wires sitting in the middle of those monster Valve covers. 2 4 barrel carbs on a crossram manifold or in line manifold. The HEMI is KING
